Arrest Made in Connection with the Tragic Death of Adam Johnson

Earlier this week, South Yorkshire Police announced the arrest of an unidentified individual, believed to be Matt Petgrave, a forward with the Sheffield Steelers. The arrest is in connection with the untimely passing of Adam Johnson, a forward for the Nottingham Panthers, which occurred last month.
"A man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter in connection with the death of ice hockey player Adam Johnson, whose neck was cut during a match.

The Nottingham Panthers player was injured by a skate in a match against Sheffield Steelers on 28 October.

The 29-year-old was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A post-mortem examination confirmed he died as a result of a fatal neck injury, South Yorkshire Police said.

The force said detectives arrested the suspect on Tuesday, adding that he remained in custody."

Additionally, concerns have emerged regarding the incident, with one of Petgrave's former coaches insinuating that his actions may have been intentional, given his history.

Finn Elmo Aittola, who served as an assistant coach for HK Spisska Nova Ves in the Slovak Extraliga during Petgrave's 34-game tenure in the 2021-22 season, has openly criticized Petgrave's behavior.
"I had the opportunity to coach Matt for a brief period. I had an immediate desire to part ways with him."

"My impression of him was overwhelmingly negative. He displayed a lack of respect, both for himself and his opponents."

"He often engaged in unsportsmanlike behavior and was a rather reckless player."

"If there was a player whom I would entertain the notion of using a skate to harm an opponent, I believe Matt Petgrave is someone who could do it. He exhibited an exceedingly reckless style of play."
