Connor McDavid shares his true thoughts on being number one in scoring

Connor McDavid recently took the number 1 spot in the NHL scoring race, and he revealed his shocking thoughts on that during an interview.

Connor McDavid continues to impress as he makes a clear case for the best active player in the NHL. His incredible legacy of goal-scoring and point production continues, and he just took over the number-one spot in the scoring race this season with just a handful of games remaining, despite missing some games with injury earlier this season.

When asked about being the NHL's top current scorer, McDavid revealed his true character, stating that he is focussing on bigger things than scoring races.

McDavid's leadership has never been in question in Edmonton, despite their early struggles. This is one of the things that makes McDavid such a valuable player, that despite clearly being the best-producing player in the NHL, he remains steadfast in his goals to bring the City of Edmonton a championship.

Oilers' window to win with both McDavid and Draisaitl is closing quickly.

The Oilers are going to have a busy few offseasons over the next few years, though, as their dynamic duo of McDavid and Draisaitl are coming up on contract extensions. There is no doubt that both of these players would get a ton on the free market, especially with the cap increasing. The Oilers will have to find a way to make it work in keeping both players, which could prove tricky.

That is a worry down the road, though, and the Oilers are most definitely focused on winning this year.
