Jets' Mark Scheifele is super excited for NHL legend Jonathan Toews to be joining Winnipeg, and he shared all his thoughts when speaking with NHL.com. Mark Scheifele is excited about cracking the ice with Jonathan Toews this year as the Winnipeg Jets look to follow up on last season's success. Winnipeg is the perfect spot for Jonathan Toews, as the 37-year-old center returns after a two-year layoff due to health issues, and Mark Scheifele can't contain his excitement. I thought it kind of was the perfect storm almost, Scheifele said prior to taking part in the Rogers Legends of Hockey event as part of the PGA Tour Champions stop at the Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club on Saturday. Coming back to Winnipeg, coming back from not playing for a couple of years, I thought it all made so much sense. I was obviously hoping that we were the front-runner and we're very excited to have him. Obviously he's a legend not just in the NHL, but Winnipeg especially, Scheifele said. I had a number of conversations with him this summer, he's obviously really excited to get back playing hockey and to be with our group. I'm very excited to have a guy with his stature and his experience and all the above. I'm really excited to play with him.

Loading from Twitter ...

Loading from Twitter ...

Toews Signed a One Year Contract With Winnipeg When Free Agency Opened
Toews, a Winnipeg native and three-time Stanley Cup champion with the Chicago Blackhawks, inked a one-year, $2 million deal with the Jets on July 1. He rounds out the roster of the defending Presidents' Trophy winners, who reached the top of the NHL standings for the first time in team history. Winnipeg is looking for Toews to provide the leadership and experience that can propel the team to its first Stanley Cup. The Jets entered last season's playoffs full of hope but were eliminated in six games in the second round by the Dallas Stars. For Scheifele, there's also the added incentive of securing a spot on Team Canada's roster for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan-Cortina. He was among 42 players invited to the orientation camp later this month in Calgary. The Jets bring back much of their roster, but the departure of Nikolaj Ehlers stings. The winger, who tallied 63 points (24 goals, 39 assists) across 69 contests last year, inked a six-year, $51 million deal with the Carolina Hurricanes on July 3 after a decade in Winnipeg. To address that void, the Jets added Toews and also Gustav Nyquist, Tanner Pearson, and Cole Koepke, with younger stars Brad Lambert (21) and Nikita Chibrikov (22) coming in to battle for roster spots as well.
