The Edmonton Oilers are expected to add more players from free agency ahead of training camp and today have been connected to former Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty.

The Edmonton Oilers have experienced a lot of turnover to their forward corps over the last two seasons.
The 2025 offseason has been particularly brutal for the Oilers as they have lost Corey Perry, Evander Kane, and Viktor Arvidsson all key veterans from their lineup.
To this point, the Oilers have been unable to replace those veterans in the lineup through free agency or trades.
Tonight, a new report from Jesse Courville-Lynch of The Hockey Writers has linked the Oilers to Max Pacioretty to fill that void.

Edmonton Oilers Connected To NHL Veteran And Former Canadiens Captain

Courville-Lynch believes that Pacioretty is still looking for an NHL opportunity and would be open to taking a player tryout contract to prove he can still play.
According to NHL expert Jesse Courville-Lynch of The Hockey Writers, one player on the PTO list is likely to be 17-year veteran and former Montreal Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty.

As for why Edmonton would be a good fit, Courville-Lynch references Pacioretty's desire to chase a Stanley Cup Championship as a major selling point for Stan Bowman and the Oilers.
If Pacioretty is not offered a contract outright he would have to consider joining the Oilers and being a Corey Perry replacement, since they've had more success over the past couple of seasons and likely give him the best chance at a championship.

Pacioretty's name is one that has been circling as an option for the Oilers from several sources who covet the veteran forward.
When healthy, Pacioretty is a offensive force and impactful power forward who can bring veteran leadership to the locker room.
Pacioretty would have to be used as a depth forward and have his health closely watched as he has only played a high of 48 games in a season since 2019.
As the preseason approaches it will be fun to see if Stan Bowman and the Oilers give Pacioretty the chance he is hoping for.
