Connor McDavid is without a doubt the best player in the NHL right now.

He has been in a class of his own for several years and is clearly the poster boy for the National League right now. This also means that when he speaks, Gary Bettman and the NHL listen.
Following an emotional Oilers loss yesterday, where his team was denied a winning goal in overtime, which resulted in a shootout loss afterwards, the famous number 97 attacked the NHL directly.
No doubt the league must not be very happy with the Oilers captain's comments, but I think he was absolutely right in what he said.
"The league needs to clarify some rules. What is a goal with the skate? What's an offside? What's obstruction on the goalie? It seems to depend on the night. It's disappointing." - Connor McDavid

It's entirely true that the NHL has no consistency on the decisions they make during games, when you go to video replay. If one night a goal is allowed with goalie interference, it is not uncommon for a similar goal to be disallowed on another given night.
It is a situation that is totally ridiculous and is causing a lot of grumbling among NHL players and teams.
The problem with this? At some point, it hurts the NHL's image.
When games end up with a controversial decision that is totally inconsistent with past decisions related to the same sequence, it's totally infuriating for the show, the fans, but also all the players.
