Imminent CH transaction: a huge rumor is confirmed and it could happen quickly

We reported this morning, a list of the 20 NHL players most likely to be traded between now and the trade deadline, according to the reputable site The Athletic. We were surprised to learn that Joel Edmundson was one of the players most likely to be traded.

The Canadiens' defenseman file seems to be shaking up a lot these days, as Pierre LeBrun has added a layer to it, and when the informer speaks, it's usually because he has very good information to back up what he says.

Last night, he confirmed one of the biggest trade rumours, sending Edmundson to the Edmonton Oilers.

One thing is for sure, the price for Edmundson is not complicated, we want essentially the same thing we got for Ben Chiarot last year, a first round pick.

Edmonton certainly has what it takes to meet Kent Hughes' demands. Even better, we know that the Canadiens are interested in one particular Oilers prospect. It's Quebec forward Xavier Bourgault.

As LeBrun reports, if the Oilers are interested in Edmundson to the point of discussing it internally, and the CH is interested in Bourgault, do we have an offer here that could satisfy both parties? Quite possibly.

It is also known that the team's GM, Ken Holland, is currently looking to free up some payroll for a defensive defenseman. According to Elliotte Friedman, the player most likely to leave Edmonton soon is Jesse Puljujarvi.

Will a trade bring the second to the Oilers? There's a good chance it will.

This rumour is to be followed in the coming weeks.
