Juraj Slafkovsky's level of play has been steadily improving over the past few games. Many people have noticed and it is good to see the first overall pick showing more confidence on the ice.

When talking about the big Slovak, people often mention his skating, shooting or puck control which is already making his mark even at 18 years old. However, one aspect that stands out more and more on the ice is his hockey intelligence.
In yesterday's game against the Flames, in the second half of the third period, we were treated to a somewhat unprecedented sequence, when there was a two-on-one against Jake Allen. On the sequence, we can see that Johnathan Kovacevic made a great save and that Jake Allen was solid. Clearly, the game could have been decided there.
But what went unnoticed live during the game and was missed by quite a few was the excellent play of Slafkovsky. He never gave up either, giving a second effort in his retreat, even though he was very far from the game.
If you watch the sequence again, you realize that he made a very smart play, giving Kovacevic a push with his stick.
Honestly, when you watch the video closely, you can see that the push really helped Kovacevic to significantly hurt the Flames' two-on-none, to negate the threat.
Many people can't believe Slaf's excellent character and the fact that he never gave up on the game.
His talent is immense, and little plays like this, which seem totally innocuous, but in reality can make all the difference in the outcome of a game, prove that the team has a gem in the making in their organization.
