The Oilers had a late game last night when they hosted the Chicago Blackhawks in Edmonton.

However, what caught the eye in this game was that sometime before the game, there was a problem with Stuart Skinner being sick and not being able to take on the role of reserve goalie on the bench.

Unable to recall a goalie from their school club, the organization quickly decided to sign an emergency goalie on an amateur tryout contract, and 25 year old goalie Matt Berlin got the chance.

Berlin is a native of Edmonton, and is playing this season with the University of Alberta in the CWUAA.

Of course, barring an unfortunate injury to Jack Campbell, this was just a precautionary move and he was not expected to play in the NHL.

However, up 7-3 in the final minutes of the game, but mostly at the request of Connor McDavid himself, the Oilers made a very nice gesture by giving the net to Berlin for the final two minutes of the game.

Wow, what a great moment for the goalie who may have had one of the best moments of his life, thanks to the Oilers captain!

Berlin played his first and probably last NHL minutes with a one save shutout.

We love this kind of story!
