Alexis Lafrenière in the West with an offer sheet?
It's August 3 and Alexis Lafrenière is still an unrestricted free agent. The Rangers have only 3 million dollars on their payroll, which complicates matters considerably.
For their part, the Sharks are about to trade Erik Karlsson, which will free up a lot of money on their payroll. According to Max Miller, who covers the Sharks' activities, the team is expected to make an offer sheet to Lafrenière.

If the Sharks make an offer of between 2.1 and 4.2 million a year to Laffy, it would put the Rangers in trouble and the compensation would be minimal. Only a 2nd-round pick would have to be paid by San Jose.
