Veteran Jets defenseman Luke Schenn is reportedly open to being traded should the team look to be sellers by the NHL's March trade deadline.

The Winnipeg Jets have proven to be one of the most disappointing squads within the league, as they have gone from winning last season's Presidents' Trophy to sitting near the cellar with a 10-game losing streak.
With the playoffs becoming less and less likely, attention has turned toward the potential for the Jets to deal veteran assets prior to the trade deadline.

What the Jets could do to recoup some assets

Even if an overhaul is out of the question simply because the foundation from the 56-win season remains in place, the Jets may find a way to recoup some assets through the trade of pending free agents.
A possible trade candidate is defenseman Luke Schenn. He is 36 years old and is entering the final year of the $2.75 AAV contract he signed with the Nashville Predators back in 2023.
As per the latest from insider David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period, Schenn did not specifically ask to be traded but would definitely welcome a change of scenery.
"There is some word that he wouldn't mind a change of scenery."

His playing time has been the lowest on the team as he is averaging 13:32 per game, including 1:44 per game on the penalty kill.

Why Luke Schenn's name is popping up more and more in trade rumors

He has seen a reduction from last season's playing time, having been a healthy scratch on four occasions in the last eight games. Schenn is ranked eighth on insider Chris Johnston's third trade board of the season.
The Jets surrendered a second and fourth-round pick in order to acquire Schenn and are unlikely to acquire that much in return. However, trading away this player could have two benefits.
These include creating flexibility in terms of cap space as well as providing opportunities for young defenseman Elias Salomonsson to grow.
Though this season has derailed, trading Schenn might be a good first step towards rebuilding the defense of the Jets.
