NHL insider Frank Seravalli revealed that there are teams interested in Elias Pettersson, but the problem is whether there is adequate value in return.

Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson has been a constant name in NHL trade rumors for nearly a year.
The speculation began in January 2025, when the Canucks explored their options with the Swedish centerman amid a feud with J.T. Miller.

What led to trade rumors surrounding Elias Pettersson to quiet

After Miller was traded to the New York Rangers later that month, talk around Pettersson quieted, especially once his full no-movement clause kicked in on Canada Day 2025, making a trade after that highly unlikely.
The 2025-26 season's slow start reignited the rumors, though Pettersson has since improved his play.
With the Canucks now in a retooling phase, general manager Patrik Allvin could consider moving him if a deal arrives that would push Vancouver toward true contender status in the coming years.

Why an Elias Pettersson trade could now be complicated for the Canucks

During a Monday appearance on Canucks Central, Satiar Shah reported league-wide interest in Pettersson. NHL insider Frank Seravalli added that while teams are intrigued, the real issue is whether the Canucks would get adequate value in return.
"I do think there are teams that are intrigued, I think is the best way to say it, now will the Canucks be able to find commensurate value in return is a totally different part of the equation."

Trading Pettersson faces two major obstacles. His no-movement clause gives him full control over any potential destination, and his $11.6 million annual salary through 2031-32 makes finding cap space difficult.
Any trade would likely require Vancouver to take back an undesirable contract to make it work.
Unless Allvin receives an offer that truly wows, the Swedish centerman is expected to remain with the Canucks past the March 6 trade deadline, keeping Vancouver's top-line center in British Columbia for the foreseeable future.
