Mark Scheifele opens up with emotional statement after being left off Team Canada
Jets' Mark Scheifele opened up with a very emotional statement after being snubbed by Team Canada, and he really gave it his all and did everything he could.
Mark Scheifele's disappointment at being left off Team Canada's 25-man Olympic roster won't stop him from staying in the International Olympic Committee's testing protocol, keeping him eligible as an injury replacement for the Milan Cortina Games.
The Winnipeg Jets' center was one of the prominent players who did not make the cut in the list revealed by Doug Armstrong on Wednesday, and he released an emotional statement.
"Yeah, it sucked. Pretty dark day, hard to think about now after kind of turning the page to this morning. Obviously, it was a tough day. News you don't want. But it just shows the amount of talent in Canada, so many great hockey players. I don't know what else I could have done."

This isn't the first time that Mark Scheifele gets snubbed by Team Canada
He also failed to make the cut for the 4 Nations Face-Off in the previous year's edition, but he is currently having the best season of his life in the NHL.
He has a rate of 1.23 points per game, which is the sixth-best among Canadians, behind Nathan MacKinnon (1.79), Connor McDavid (1.71), Macklin Celebrini (1.55), Connor Bedard (1.42), and Mark Stone (1.41).
The only one in this list who has not been included in the Olympic Games' list so far is Bedard, who is currently out with a shoulder injury. Despite playing for the 32nd-rated team in the NHL, Scheifele has been a consistent two-way player.
Why Mark Scheifele could be one of the first to be called on by Team Canada in the event of an injury
Notably, he has accumulated 38 even-strength points, which ranks third among Canadian players, further explaining why he remains an important fallback plan in case of an open roster spot because of an injury.
Since replacement players, because of injury, are permissible until the start of action on February 11, Scheifele remains prepared and keeps his dream alive.
The condensed season the NHL is playing leading up to the Olympic break might offer some chances, and for those who think he is making a difference every day in Winnipeg, he certainly deserves a ticket to Italy.
He is now 32 and is ready to play should the call come to represent Team Canada.
