Former Canucks franchise icon Todd Bertuzzi weighs in on the behind-the-scenes drama between Elias Petterson and now-ex Vancouver forward JT Miller. The Vancouver Canucks will not be in the Stanley Cup Playoffs this year; despite their thrilling overtime comeback win over the Dallas Stars earlier in the week, it only delayed the inevitable. Their year that was marred by injuries to multiple top players, along with controversial behind-the-scenes drama, will soon come to a close for a far earlier than anticipated summer.

Loading from Twitter ...

The aforementioned drama was a personal rift between Elias Pettersson and now-former Canucks forward JT Miller; the exact nature of the problem between the two has not been fully revealed. Miller was eventually traded to the New York Rangers, his original NHL club; meanwhile, Pettersson's performance never improved, another major factor in Vancouver's failure to return to the playoffs. Former Canucks forward Todd Bertuzzi is weighing in on the drama that was a major part of the season for Vancouver, saying that he was personally annoyed by it and that he couldn't understand why two grown men (and handsomely-compensated) professional athletes couldn't patch up the troubles between them. It was getting kind of annoying and hard to watch. I just don't understand how two men couldn't figure it out and come to a compromise because that J.T. Miller, he's a legit gamebreaker, he's one of those guys that when you have them, you want to keep them. It was hard seeing that, especially [because] I've got so much respect for Tocch, Adam Foote, and that staff. I was surprised that it carried on that long. Bertuzzi continued by saying that he hopes that the Canucks can turn things around and return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs next year. Following weeks of speculation and a confirmation from team president Jim Rutherford that there was a personal problem between Pettersson and Miller, the latter was traded to the Rangers for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, and a 1st round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. Not only have the Canucks already been eliminated from postseason contention, but one more regulation loss by Miller's Rangers will mean they will share in the same fate.
