The Edmonton Oilers seemingly need an upgrade in net, but according to Elliotte Friedman, they don't want to make a panic move as of right now. The Edmonton Oilers entered the 2025/26 season full of hope, and while they're showing flashes of the Stanley Cup contender many consider them to be, there's plenty of weaknesses in this team as well. Thus far, it's been the goaltending that has stood out as the Oilers biggest issue, with the duo of Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard have each given up a GAA above 3.00 along with save percentages at .885 or below.
Oilers reportedly hesitant to make a change in net
As a result of these struggles, the Oilers have been linked to many goaltenders around the league, but as of yet they have not made a move. Now, Friedman has provided some context to why the team aren't making a move as of yet, revealing that Stan Bowman and the front office are worried that a panic move may not be the way to go. They would rather make no move than what they think would be a bad move or a panic move or a move just to do it.

Loading from Twitter ...

Right now, the speculation in Edmonton centres around Jordan Binnington in St. Louis and Tristan Jarry in Pittsburgh, and even with the Oilers desperation to get their momentum going early in the season, they're not going to risk an overpay or a panic move simply for the optics of making a move. Only time will tell what the Oilers move will be, but if neither Skinner nor Pickard can find their form in a hurry, this is a team that needs to make a big move, and whatever move that is could greatly effect their Stanley Cup hopes in 2025/26.
