Samuel Montembeault: A well-deserved contract offer is on the table

BY MARCO    JUNE 1, 2023  (9:00)
Samuel Montembeault had a great season under the circumstances, and his value has just increased with his performances in the World Championship.

As the man himself says, he wants to sign a contract extension this summer in Montreal. He's happy to be playing for the Canadiens and wants to stay for the long term.

According to Guillaume Latendresse, Kent Hughes must sign him before training camp:

"For my part, I'd go with a four-year contract with a salary between 2.5 and 3 million a year. Maybe we'll come along in two years and say we paid too much? But he won't hurt you on the payroll. The worst-case scenario is that he's your reserve at 2.5 or 3 million. If you give him a chance to start the season, you might pay $4 million."

- Guillaume Latendresse

The 26-year-old goaltender currently has one year left on his $1 million contract. Kent Hughes could therefore sign him at a discount on July 1, tying him to the CH for a total of five years.
