NHL insider Elliotte Friedman acknowledged that the Oilers are interested in Tristan Jarry, but the one obstacle getting in the way is his overall health.

Just as the Edmonton Oilers ramp up their quest for stability in net, Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry has bounced back from a rough stretch and re-established himself as a reliable NHL option.
On Wednesday, ESPN's Kevin Weekes reported that Jarry is drawing real interest from Edmonton, a team whose season continues to sag under inconsistent goaltending. Earlier in the year, a possible fit seemed obvious.

The turbulent season that Tristan Jarry underwent last year

However, Jarry's turbulent 2024-25 season, one that included Penguins goalies flirting with an NHL record for first-shot goals against and Jarry being waived in January, complicated the picture.
He fought his way back, reclaimed the starter's role, and carried that steadiness into this season.
Elliotte Friedman discussed on The Fan Hockey Show that Jarry indeed is available, particularly with Pittsburgh carrying four goalies. However, he stated that Edmonton seeks certainty on health after shying away from John Gibson for similar reasons.
Jarry's recent lower-body injury, which kept him out for most of November, is going to be a critical factor.

Why Tristan Jarry would be a good fit for the Oilers

The Penguins activated the 31-year-old on Wednesday, and he made his first start since Nov. 3. Before the injury, he posted a solid .911 save percentage through seven appearances.
His $5.375 million cap hit runs through this season and the next two, and he has natural ties to Edmonton from his WHL Oil Kings days.
Meanwhile, the tandem of Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard sports a league-worst .868 save percentage, leaving the club desperate for an answer.
Whether Edmonton pushes for Jarry now comes down to his form and health in the near future. For now, the door is still open.
