Tonight, NHL insider Kevin Weekes of ESPN has connected the Edmonton Oilers and Pittsburgh Penguins in a potential trade centered around Tristan Jarry. The Edmonton Oilers goaltending has been a major problem this season holding the defending Western Conference champions back tremendously. Over the last couple of days, reports have emerged that the Oilers have finally been considering a goaltending shake up. Now, with a shake up within reach for the Oilers NHL insider has Kevin Weekes has suggested that the Pittsburgh Penguins could be potential trade partner to free up their logjam at the position.
Edmonton Oilers and Pittsburgh Penguins connected in potential trade centered around Tristan Jarry
Coming into the season, the Penguins were unsure who their starting goaltender would be between Arturs Silovs, Sergei Murashov, and Tristan Jarry. Throughout the early part of the season, all three have gotten reps in the NHL lineup and proven to be capable of playing in big games. With Jarry being the oldest of the three many believe he will be the odd man out whenever the Penguins decide to make a move. If this ends up being the case Weekes believes the Oilers will come calling.

Loading from Twitter ...

Much like their current duo Tristan Jarry has suffered from his ups and downs in his career but is an all-star level goalie at his best something the Oilers currently do not have. This season, at 30-years-old, Jarry is having the best season in years with a 2.60 goals against average and a 0.911 save percentage. If the Penguins want to lean into their youth and continue developing Silovs and Murashov then a trade involving Jarry would make a lot of sense. Now, it will be up to Oilers' GM Stan Bowman to determine whether or not Jarry is a big enough upgrade over Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard to pull the trigger on a move.
