Canucks Suddenly Emerge as Top Contender for Flames' Top-Two Centerman, per Nick Kypreos
NHL insider Nick Kypreos has revealed that Nazem Kadri of the Flames is being linked to two Canadian teams, the Canucks and Canadiens.
Nazem Kadri reached a major milestone last night, playing in his 1,000th NHL game, but while the Flames centre stayed put for that achievement, reports suggest Calgary's front office is far from idle.
According to one league executive, GM Craig Conroy has made it known that he's open for business as the trade market heats up. So, Kadri could be moved prior to the March trade deadline if the right offer comes along.
While numerous teams have been attached to him, the Carolina Hurricanes have shown interest in Kadri as they continue their attempt to land a high-impact forward after missing out on Mikko Rantanen and Mitch Marner last year.
It appears the Hurricanes may be bowing out of the Nazem Kadri race
However, it seems Carolina's pursuit appears complicated, as they're reportedly included on Kadri's 13-team no-trade list.
The Vancouver Canucks and Montreal Canadiens are two other clubs said to be considering top-two centre options, and both would be more realistic trade partners, seeing that they aren't on Kadri's no-trade list, especially now that Carolina doesn't appear to be in the mix anymore.
"Kadri has been linked to multiple teams, but we have to specifically mention the Carolina Hurricanes"; "for now, the Hurricanes seem an unlikely destination"; "Vancouver and Montreal are also interested in landing a top-two centre".

Insider Nick Kypreos added that Vancouver and Montreal's search doesn't stop with Kadri. Both teams have also shown interest in Boston's Pavel Zacha, who's off to a strong start and has one year left on his current deal.
With few true top-six centres available this season or next, Zacha's situation could draw even more attention as the Bruins weigh whether to re-sign him or move him for future assets.
It sets up what should be an intriguing storyline, one that could see several Canadian teams make significant moves down the middle of the season, long before the trade deadline.
