Two players have been placed on NHL waivers, as Tampa waived Mitchell Chaffee, while Washington placed Brett Leason, whom they just signed to a contract. The Washington Capitals signed forward Brett Leason to a one-year, two-way contract on Monday and subsequently placed him on waivers to assign him to the AHL's Hershey Bears, but he would have to go unclaimed first. Mitchell Chaffee was also placed on waivers by the Lightning on Monday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reported.

Loading from Twitter ...

Chaffee's placement on waivers will allow the Bolts to send him down to the AHL to their affiliate of Syracuse. After going pointless in his first seven outings, the 27-year-old winger was left out of the lineup for Tampa's last two games, with the team opting to roll with seven defensemen instead of using him. Given his limited offensive upside, it seems unlikely another team will put a claim in on the Michigan native, so he should be an AHL player by tomorrow.
Brett Leason was on a PTO with the Minnesota Wild in September, but they ultimately chose to let him go
Turning our attention to Leason, he was a free agent who had spent training camp with the Minnesota Wild on a PTO. The 26-year-old winger had five goals and 22 points in 62 games with the Anaheim Ducks last season. He was selected in the second round of the 2019 draft by the Capitals, so he returned to his old stomping grounds. Leason was traded to the Ducks after his first NHL season in 2021-22. He has 25 goals and 54 points in 220 career games that he has suited up with the Capitals and Ducks.
