Quinn Hughes' Vancouver departure sparks concern about a growing NHL trend, per Elliotte Friedman
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman believes that NHL stars are not shying away from asking for trades when they're unhappy, which is what we saw with Quinn Hughes.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman talks about an interesting change that is occurring around the NHL. Players who aren't happy aren't waiting as long to ask for a trade, and an end is occurring at a quicker pace than it did in years past.
He pointed out a few players that fit this category: Phillip Danault, Mason Marchment, and Quinn Hughes. The most recent one seems to be Andrew Mangiapane, of the Edmonton Oilers.
"One thing that's kinda changed...what happened with Danault; Marchment; Quinn Hughes, once guys get unhappy, we're seeing moves...faster than we've seen."

What's ahead this season for Andrew Mangiapane
Following another challenging July 1 for Edmonton, there seem to be plans being developed by GM Stan Bowman for Mangiapane to move him as the team rebuilds its roster under coach Kris Knoblauch.
On Monday, Friedman further reported that there is a possible trade being considered by Mangiapane, his agent, and the Oilers to a new team where a larger role could be undertaken.
Later the same evening, Mangiapane was a healthy scratch during the team's game vs. the Winnipeg Jets, led by coach Scott Arniel.
Mangiapane is in the first year of a two-year contract with a cap hit of $3.6 million. He has a complete no-trade clause that will become a partial no-trade provision lasting for five teams as of June 16.
Why Andrew Mangiapane has been unhappy in Edmonton lately
The team has been reducing his playtime gradually this season, averaging 13:31 minutes a game, making him ninth among Oilers' forwards.
This includes an average of 11:35 minutes per game since December 1, playing only 11 minutes in three out of the last ten games.
As Friedman has pointed out, the pattern Mangiapane's situation reflects has been apparent within the league, as we've seen with Hughes, Danault, and Marchment, and may continue to upset the roster stability of the NHL.
