Lane Hutson gave Martin St-Louis the answer every coach wants before Game 3, but it also put Taylor Hall on notice.
The Canadiens defenseman didn't duck the hit. He didn't sell outrage. He owned his position on the wall, then made it clear Hall had another option.
"I feel like he could have done a better job leaning more with his shoulder but whatever. The game happens so fast I'm not saying he intended to do anything crazy... I put myself in a bad spot & he took advantage."

That's not a complaint. That's a young defenseman telling Carolina he saw the play, understood the risk, and won't forget the body angle.
Hutson isn't some depth piece getting dragged into noise. He has 14 points in 16 playoff games, with 12 assists.
Hutson's response changes the Game 3 pressure
Carolina knows where Montreal's transition starts. Hutson's first pass, controlled entries, and power-play touches force Rod Brind'Amour's group to finish every route into the corner.
Hall has 12 points in 10 playoff games and a +7 rating, so this isn't just a veteran trying to stir the bench. He's producing and leaning into contact.
That makes Game 3 less about payback and more about space. If Hutson gets rushed into bad exits, Montreal's breakout gets squeezed before the top six can get moving.
Game 2 went 3-2 in overtime for Carolina, tying the series 1-1 after Montreal's 6-2 Game 1 win in Raleigh.
Now the Bell Centre gets the next read. St-Louis needs Hutson active, not cautious, because Montreal's best counterpunch still runs through his blue-line poise.
Hutson's message was sharp because it carried no panic. He admitted the bad spot, pointed at Hall's shoulder choice, and moved the pressure straight into Game 3.
