Junior player receives 31-game suspension after brutal brawl

The Pacific Junior Hockey League handed out a massive 31-game suspension to Eithan Grishin after a brutal brawl that occured in January.

In a game between the Richmond Sockeyes and the North Vancouver Wolf Pack, Grishin was involved in a massive scrum and his actions will have major consequences.

Pacific Junior Hockey League suspends Eithan Grishin 31 games for an on-ice incident that occured in late-January.



On January 25th, at the Minoru Arena in Richmond, goalie Evan Paul was seriously injured, after Eithan Grishin had him him in a head lock for a while.

"This is awful. #criminalbehaviour Hockey player injured in brawl. A hockey brawl that broke out last week between the North Vancouver Wolf Pack and Richmond Sockeyes left a player seriously injured."



The League finally announced a 31-game suspension for Grishin, with the following statement:

"The Pacific Junior Hockey League and its Department of Player Safety have completed an investigation regarding an on-ice incident that took place on January 25th involving Richmond Sockeyes player Eithan Grishin.

After a full review, a decision was provided to the Mr Grishin and the Sockeyes.

As per PJHL regulations, the team and player were provided the ability to appeal specific items within the decision. An appeal was received and reviewed by the Commissioner. After reviewing the incident and decision in its entirety, the Commissioner ruled to uphold the decision of the Department of Player Safety.

Eithan Grishin of the Richmond Sockeyes will receive the following supplemental discipline:

- 3 games for Head Contact as per BCHC Supplemental Discipline 1.1.2 and 6.1.1 for receiving a game misconduct in the last 10 minutes of regulation time.
- 12 games for the Match Penalty under BCHC Supplemental Discipline 10.1.1 and 13.2.2
- 8 games for receiving his 3rd Match Penalty of the 2023/2024 season under BCHC Supplemental Discipline 10.1.3
- 2 games as per BCHC Supplemental Discipline 7.1.1 and 6.1.1 for receiving a game misconduct in the last 10 minutes of regulation time.
- 6 games under BCHC Supplemental Discipline 17.2 Repeat Offenders

Total = 31 Games

NOTE: This suspension began being served on January 29th, 2024.

The league considers this investigation to be completed and will have no further comment."
