During a warm-up game between Canada and Slovakia at the World Junior Championship, Shane Wright accidentally scored in his own goal. It was also the only goal for the Slovaks, who lost 6-1.

Fortunately, it was only an exhibition game, so the result was not very dramatic for Team Canada. On the other hand, the fourth overall pick in the last draft still prevented teammate Ben Gaudreau from recording a shutout.
Obviously, both teammates chose to make light of the situation, and rightly so, but the Canadian captain will not escape unscathed.
In an interview with TSN, he admitted that he now owes his goalie a debt of gratitude.

However, goaltender Ben Gaudreau sniffed out something else that would do his bidding to get compensated!
Here's what he had to say on the subject:
"I'll take the blame for the goal. The puck deflected off my skate so I'm going to assume it was my fault. Shane Wright and I chatted about it a little bit and we agreed that he would give me one of his autographed sticks. It sure beats a lunch!" - Ben Gaudreau

Admittedly, the Hoosier would be getting a much better deal on an autographed stick, as it is likely to increase in value with the Kraken's number 51's very promising career. It also makes for a much better long-term souvenir than just a dinner.
Well done from the goalie!
