It was a much more intense night than expected in the NHL last night as the top free agent on the trade market was dealt.

Bo Horvat was traded from the Canucks to the Islanders. In return, Vancouver received Quebecer Anthony Beauvillier, a first round pick in 2023 (top-12 protected) and young Aatu Raty.
If the pick is in the top-12, it will be carried over to the 2024 draft. In this case, he will no longer be protected.
Reactions to the trade have been all over the place, with some believing the Islanders paid too much and others believing the Canucks did not get enough for the former captain.
That being said, according to the information reported by the excellent Kevin Weekes at NHL Network, the Vancouver management may have mismanaged this file.
Indeed, the former NHL goaltender revealed on Twitter that an executive from one of the teams in the pursuit for Horvat's services told him that Canucks GM Patrik Allvin wouldn't even give him a chance to bid on the Islanders offer.
Basically, this team, which is not happy with the Canucks handling of the file, says they could have gotten more if Allvin had played his cards better, instead of taking the first offer on the table.
If this story is true, which I certainly believe it is, it's surprising that the Canucks GM didn't even haggle over his player to boost his value with the offer he received from the Islanders.
It is possible that the elements included in the deal were satisfactory, but the job of a general manager should always be to maximize the return value of an asset, and in this case, Patrik Allvin clearly did not do that.
With a month to go before the trade deadline, should Vancouver have been a little more patient before closing this deal?
The 27 year old Bo Horvat has 31 goals and 23 assists for 54 points in 49 games so far this season.
