Despite the Jets' 7-3-0 start, head coach Scott Arniel isn't quite satisfied and said his team still has a lot more to give and issues to fix to get even better.

When questioned about the team's performance in the first 10 games of the season, Winnipeg Jets coach Scott Arniel was very careful with his words.
The Jets' coach agreed that there was good stuff in gaining 14 points in the season, but there was still room to improve if they were to maintain the current trend of being at a .700 win level.
Arniel understood that, as with any 82-game season, marathons bring with them good and bad days, injuries, and times of adversity.
"I'm happy with 7-3. I don't ever want to talk down on being 7-3, but we still haven't come close to playing our complete game yet," Arniel said after the Jets defeated the Minnesota Wild 4-3 in overtime and before using Wednesday to recharge the batteries. "There's signs of things that we're doing better, but sometimes it's two steps forward, one step back.

"But it's early in the year and if we're going to do it, do it now. Get it out of the way. But I like the fact that, even though we haven't played our best hockey, we're still sitting at 7-3."

While the identity the Jets have cultivated has remained consistent in Arniel's four years with the team, there was an unquestionable understanding of his need to commit once more to the smaller details that make that identity so special.
The Jets' defensive unit, which was an area of concern in the past, has now become one of the team's strengths, though consistency in puck handling and coverage has been emphasized by Arniel.
Certain mistakes in game scenarios, whether in losses or victories, have dented the team, though it is encouraging to see that the players are able to identify these areas to work upon.

Scott Arniel isn't expecting perfection in October, but wants to see passion

The coach doesn't expect everything to click at this point in time, especially with fresh faces trying to find their rhythm in the team. It is the passion to improve that sets good teams apart from great ones.
As the Jets embark on their upcoming series of matches, including fixtures against Chicago and Pittsburgh, they can expect to benefit from fresh reinforcements on the way.
Captain Adam Lowry and forward Cole Perfetti are close to being ready to return to action, in addition to defenseman Dylan Samberg.
If Winnipeg can keep combining defensive prowess with the growing chemistry on offense, Arniel's team might be able to parlay the great start they're on into something even better throughout the season.
