Jets coach Scott Arniel spoke to the media after barely edging out the Flames last night and revealed his team is inconsistent and things need to be fixed. One could say that the Winnipeg Jets made the most of a bad situation, though it was largely one of their own choosing.
What was the result in last night's game
The Jets finished off the longest trip of the season Saturday night, when they concluded a six-game road swing through the Pacific Division with a 4-3 shootout victory over the Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary. But after yielding a power-play goal to Matt Coronato with just 1:14 remaining, the Jets needed someone to rise up. That player was Gabe Vilardi, who scored the lone goal in the shootout in the third round to earn the bonus point. Nonetheless, the big picture of the last 12 days was not what the Jets aimed for. Their schedule, which was supposed to help them develop more of an identity and move them up in the very competitive Central Division, resulted in a 2-4 record, placing the team in the muddled middle of the standings as the first portion of the season ends. Head coach Scott Arniel spoke to the inconsistencies of the team and revealed what needs to be done moving forward. Obviously a lot of inconsistencies throughout our team game, Jets head coach Scott Arniel said after the morning skate. Like a lot of teams, we're battling injuries, we're getting guys coming back in the line-up. At the same time, we have a style of play we like to play every night. We've been a little inconsistent with that. That also comes (down) to your compete, your work ethic, how hard you want to battle each and every shift. If we take up those areas, be more consistent with our all-around team game, then it should improve.

Loading from Twitter ...

Why Adam Lowry is not fazed by the team's inconsistency
Despite the inconsistency, the team captain, Adam Lowry, still feels the players can move forward, regain the structure, and switch gears. We're getting close to what I think we envisioned our lineup looking like coming into the year, said Lowry. Obviously, we're not going to look the same or accomplish things the same as we did last year, but it's still about the attention to detail, being a really strong defensive team. That's our team's bread and butter. The Jets, currently sporting a record of 11-7-0, open a three-game homestand Tuesday evening against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The game-winning goal in the shootout by Vilardi was the highlight of the evening, as it was a tremendous lift to the Jets in their efforts to stabilize the game. While the Jets return home, this victory could end up meaning more than just the two points earned. After the draining trip had some lost chances, this could be just the boost they've needed in terms of finding the momentum to turn the season around.
