This afternoon, former Winnipeg Jets forward Nikolaj Ehlers spoke to the media and opened up about facing his former team next week.

The Winnipeg Jets are scheduled to face the Carolina Hurricanes next Friday in Winnipeg and when they do Nikolaj Ehlers will return for the first time as a visitor.
Ehlers left Winnipeg signing with the Carolina Hurricanes in free agency this past summer.
Despite leaving the Jets, Ehlers has been very complimentary of his former team and has now spoken about why he left and what it will be like returning with Carolina.

Nikolaj Ehlers discussed why he left the Winnipeg Jets

During his recent interview, Ehlers opened up about the factors that led him to sign in Carolina.
Ehlers reveals he spoke with fellow countryman Frederik Andersen before signing with the Hurricanes.
I talked to a lot of people in that whole process,» said Ehlers, noting that Hurricanes goalie and fellow Dane Frederik Andersen was one of them. «I don't know if I asked for advice, but those guys I am super close with and that chipped in with everything they had and made me not have any big questions left to ask.

Ehlers also praised his new head coach Rod Brind'Amour as a key reason that Carolina felt like such a good fit.
That's what you want. Yes, it's great that the GM wants you, but you want the coach to want you - or it's not going to work. They showed that interest from Day 1 and that feels good. When a team wants you that bad. That was something that was very important to me.

After discussing why he went to Carolina, Ehlers spoke to the fans of the Winnipeg Jets and opened up about his highly anticipated return.

Ehlers then admitted that he is excited and nervous to return to Winnipeg and see his former teammates and the Jets' faithful.
It will be special. I've always said that I'm not ever nervous for a hockey game, but for that one, it might creep in a little bit. I have a lot of good friends on that team who have been family and are still family. It's going to be emotional for myself, for sure.

It remains to be seen whether Ehlers will be met with a warm welcome in his return to Winnipeg or if the Jets' fans will hold a grudge against the Danish winger for leaving in free agency.
