Nikolaj Ehlers Reveals The Reasons Why He Chose To Leave The Winnipeg Jets In New Interview

Earlier this week, Ehlers broke the hearts of the Winnipeg community when he decided to sign a long-term contract with the Carolina Hurricanes as a free agent.

Ehlers' departure had been speculated for months but when it was made official the move signaled the end of an era for the Winnipeg Jets and even Ehlers himself who was drafted by the team.

After settling in with his new organization, Ehlers spoke to the media for the first time today and addressed the Winnipeg Jets fans giving them his reasons for leaving.

During today's interview, Ehlers focused on giving appreciation to the Winnipeg community and the Jets fans before moving on to his new opportunity.

Ehlers commended the Jets fans for their passion while urging Hurricanes fans to provide the same passion he is accustomed to.

He then confirmed what has been widely speculated regarding his departure.

Ehlers revealed that the Jets did nothing wrong and that he simply was looking for a new challenge and a fresh start.

This, of course, does not remove the sting from Ehlers' departure but should at least provide some reassurance that Ehlers will always hold a special place in his life and in his heart for the Winnipeg community.

Now, Ehlers is excited for the new challenge ahead and get up to speed as quickly as possible to try and help the Carolina Hurricanes bring home a Stanley Cup.

It will be interesting to see if Ehlers' comments change the reception he will receive from Winnipeg Jet fans when he inevitably returns this time as a visitor.
