Today in a new interview former Canucks head coach Bruce Boudreau revealed he was shocked to see Brock Boeser re-sign for one specific reason. The Vancouver Canucks and Brock Boeser agreed to a long-term extension just before free agency began on July 1st.

Loading from Twitter ...

The deal between the two sides was surprising because many had thought the gap in salary was too large to strike a deal. Luckily, the Canucks front office led by Jim Rutherford and Patrik Allvin were able to hammer away at negotiations and get a deal done. Since the deal was struck, several NHL analysts have reacted to the signing and the process of negotiations to get there. Today, former Canucks head coach Bruce Boudreau commented on the situation and admits he was shocked to see Boeser back.
Bruce Boudreau Reveals He Was Shocked To See Brock Boeser Re-Sign For One Specific Reason
During the latest episode of Overdrive on TSN, Boudreau spoke about the relationship between Boeser and the Canucks. Boudreau revealed that he was surprised to see Boeser back because the team had attempted to trade him several times during Boudreau's tenure as head coach. They've been talking about trading him for two years. I know when I was there they asked Brock's agent to try and help facilitate a trade.

Loading from Twitter ...

These comments from Boudreau seem to indicate there were major problems between the front office and Brock Boeser which went past his on-ice contributions and that the Canucks were hoping he would move on. Now, of course, Boudreau has not been in Vancouver since 2022-23 and a lot could have changed in that time for Boeser and the Canucks. Regardless, the two sides have struck a deal and Boeser will now remain in Vancouver for the foreseeable future.
