In a new interview with Sportsnet, Canucks captain Quinn Hughes addressed last season's disappointing results and drama along with his future in Vancouver. This offseason has been filled with speculation surrounding Quinn Hughes' future with the Vancouver Canucks as his contract is set to expire soon. This speculation has continued the trend of the organization being controlled by drama after the problems between Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller last season. Today, Hughes spoke to the media and directly spoke about the issues between Pettersson and Miller as well as several other topics heading into the season.
Quinn Hughes Blocking Out The Noise Surrounding His Future In Vancouver
Hughes began by talking about his contract that is set to expire after the 2026-27 season. He led by admitting that outside noise is not something that impacts his game and as a leader he feels a responsibility to help his teammates block out the noise as well. And as far as the noise around my teammates, I'm going to try to help everyone else, too, and be as good a leader as I can be. Noise doesn't bother me. It's a long year, and I'm just going to be day-to-day and focus on the short term. That's the truth, honestly. When it comes to his own contract negotiations he mentions teammates Conor Garland and Brock Boeser but wants to keep his focus on getting the Canucks back in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Every year brings its different challenges. Two of my best buddies (Canuck teammates Conor Garland and Brock Boeser) just signed in Vancouver long-term. I will say last year was not fun; it just wasn't. But I'm a really competitive guy ... and last year was a failure, so I'm trying to bring my best.

Loading from Twitter ...

It seems that after these comments Quinn Hughes is still fully committed to the Canucks and bringing the team success. With still over a year until Hughes hits free agency the pressure of getting an extension done can be pushed down the road without fear. Hopefully for the Canucks, Hughes can inspire his teammates to come together and have a playoff caliber season leading him to be ecstatic to re-sign come next offseason.
