Today, NHL insider Frank Seravalli has indicated that Connor McDavid's camp could have a hard deadline for extension talks to be completed by.

Over the last several days reports have indicated that extension talks between the Edmonton Oilers and Connor McDavid could be put on hold until the season begins.
This is a major change from the expectation heading into the offseason when many around the league assumed that McDavid's contract negotiations would be wrapped up by now.
A new report from Frank Seravalli has indicated that the Oilers need to have some urgency in contract talks because McDavid's camp could potentially shut talks down during the season.

Frank Seravalli Indicates Connor McDavid's Camp Could Implement Contract Negotiation Deadline

In a new appearance, Seravalli indicates that if McDavid makes it to opening night without a contract then he could push the pause button on negotiations until the end of the season entirely.
I kind of have some of those similar vibes myself. If you're not signing before October 7th what's the push for McDavid to sign. At that point you could wait until I don't know June or May to figure it out once your season is over.

If McDavid chooses this path then it would put the Edmonton Oilers in extreme danger of losing him for nothing if negotiations do not happen quickly.
Seravalli continues and talks about how McDavid could take time to evaluate if Edmonton truly is the best fit for him if negotiations are not done by the season's start.
If you're McDavid once the start of the season goes by what's the pull? Unless the noise becomes so over the top or if it's impacting your team. If the noise around the situation is impacting the team then maybe that's not the right team anymore.
These comments from Seravalli seem quite ominous and put an immense amount of pressure on Stan Bowman and the Oilers front office to hammer out a deal quickly.
If a deal is not struck the Oilers will have to run the risk that the Toronto Maple Leafs did last season with Mitch Marner and hope McDavid remains loyal to Edmonton.
As the situation continues to play out, we will pass along all of the latest details on McDavid's contract situation and future in Edmonton.
