The speculation around Connor McDavid has been all over the place recently, and now one reporter believes he'll sign a new deal before the 2025/26 season.

Over the past few weeks, the conflicting reports of Connor McDavid's future in Edmonton have been non-stop, with some believing he'll take his time to get a new deal done while other reporters have noted he wants to get it done before the 2025/26 regular season begins.
Now, the star centre is on his way back to Edmonton after Olympic Orientation Camp in Calgary, and it appears as though all signs now point to a deal getting done rather soon.

McDavid's extension will be the Oilers biggest priority at Training Camp

On the latest edition of the Oilers NOW podcast, David Staples revealed his thoughts on the situation, noting that McDavid likely doesn't want to be a distraction, meaning that he'd prefer to get a deal done before the regular season begins.
He knows it's not going to be a distraction; we don't know how many years; the next couple weeks he's gonna sign here.
In a recent interview with Team Canada, McDavid made it clear that he wants to win with Edmonton, and while that doesn't mean a deal will get done immediately, it means that he will likely continue his goal of winning a Stanley Cup with the organization that drafted him back in 2015.
As of late, it became clear that the extension signed by the team captain will likely be in the range of 3-4 years, and now, the waiting game begins for fans as they wait to hear of the future for their captain and this Oilers team.
