The Canucks announced today that Marco Rossi has been retroactively placed on injured reserve, forcing the team to call up Arshdeep Bains from Abbotsford.

Vancouver Canucks center Marco Rossi was assigned to IR and is expected to sit for an extended period with his injury retroactive to Dec. 30. On this note, the Canucks recalled LW Arsheep Bains from their AHL counterpart, the Abbotsford Canucks.
Rossi, 24, was acquired by the Canucks in mid-December as a result of the massive trade deal that sent Vancouver captain Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild.

What Marco Rossi is suffering from

Canucks head coach Adam Foote has revealed that the player has been suffering from a lower-body injury.
The Austrian forward featured in Vancouver's last match of 2025, which was a 6-3 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. He recorded a block in the early stages of the third period, after which he didn't return to the ice for the last eight minutes of the match.
Since being brought to Vancouver as part of the trade that also brought defenseman Zeev Buim and left-winger Liam Öhgren, the highly touted Rossi has been unable to contribute much offensively.
In eight games with the Canucks, he has one goal and one assist, which puts him at five goals and 10 assists through 25 games with Minnesota and Vancouver this season.

Why Marco Rossi isn't the only Canucks player injured

The team indicated on Monday that Rossi and right winger Connor Garland would sit out a week, although Garland was not sent to injured reserve.
Bains rejoins the NHL roster after going through waivers recently due to a demotion. He has registered one goal with four assists in 26 NHL games played. He has scored three goals with three assists in five games played in the AHL.
The Canucks, currently at the bottom of the Pacific Division standings and 31st overall in the NHL, will get back to home ice against the Seattle Kraken on Friday.
