Jonathan Lekkerimaki made his NHL debut last season, and now he's revealed how he's going to bounce back from a rough 2024/25 campaign. Back in the 2022 NHL Draft, the Vancouver Canucks used the No. 15 overall draft pick on winger Jonathan Lekkerimaki, and to this point, his development has been going fairly well. In 2024/25, he got his first taste of the NHL, appearing in 24 games and tallying 3 goals and 6 points, but after the season, he was clearly frustrated with his overall performance.
Lekkerimaki Opens Up On Bouncing Back From A Tough Season
In his first season in North America, Lekkerimaki dealt with plenty of injuries, and while he still played in 60 games between the AHL and the NHL, he admitted in a recent interview that it certainly effected his adjustment. Yeah, a little bit. But next time I have to come back stronger from that injury and then work harder after the injury. During that, he also revealed that he went back to Sweden to train with fellow NHLers, as he looked to get stronger and put on weight to not only improve his game but also to prevent injuries moving forward. I trained with a good group back in Sweden, William Eklund, Noah Ostlund. We did a lot of workouts, but not that much skating, but I tried to gain some weight. I tried to get bigger and stronger because the seasons so long, and you play so many games, especially [in North America]. At 21-years of age, there's still plenty of time for him to continue his development, but given his solid size and his fantastic talent, if he can start the year well in the AHL, he may be a genuine NHL threat late in the season.
