Elliotte Friedman says Igor Chernyshov is out of hospital after the Montreal hit and traveling to Ottawa, a hard reset for San Jose.

Chernyshov is 20, he was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in 2024, second round, 33rd overall, and he has 3-8-11 in 15 NHL games this season.
His entry-level deal carries a $934,167 cap hit through 2027-28, so this is cheap skill staying available on a rebuilding roster.
The key detail is the sequence. Chernyshov played Saturday in Montreal, took a vicious hit from Mike Matheson, went down hard, and was sent to hospital after trying to get up.
Now the update matters more than the scare. Ryan Warsofsky says Chernyshov is back with the team and will make the trip to Ottawa, which keeps one more play-driving winger in the mix.
That changes the hockey picture for the next game. Chernyshov helps the Sharks hold pucks in the offensive zone and gives the top-six another winger who can attack inside ice.

Igor Chernyshov gives the San Jose Sharks a live option

Sharks fans will read this as relief first, but there is real roster meaning here too.
San Jose beat Montreal 4-2 on Saturday, and getting Chernyshov back on the trip gives Warsofsky one more young piece to evaluate in meaningful March games.
This is the expert read, not just the headline. A healthy Chernyshov protects lineup flexibility, preserves low-cost offense, and keeps San Jose's development plan pointed at Ottawa instead of the trainer's room.
The scary part happened in Montreal. The important part now is that Chernyshov is back on the road, and the Sharks can keep pushing forward Sunday in Ottawa.
