Per a report from NHL analyst David Pagnotta, the time of Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse could be limited and will be a topic this summer.
Right now, the Edmonton Oilers continue to battle inconsistency as they try and not only get back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs but try and make a third straight run to the Stanley Cup Final.
They've advanced in each of the last two years, but lost on both occasions to the Florida Panthers.
Oilers GM Stan Bowman has come under scrutiny for the trade that sent Stuart Skinner to the Pittsburgh Penguins as part of a package to acquire Tristan Jarry, who has been terribly inconsistent for them.
But defenseman Darnell Nurse, who was signed to a massive extension by ex-Oilers GM Ken Holland, could see his name pop up in trade discussions this summer per a new report from NHL analyst David Pagnotta.
David Pagnotta: Re Oilers: I know Darnell Nurse was a topic of discussion with at least one other team, but I don't think it go too far along; I think this is something that will be looked at in the summer - Oilersnation Everyday (3/9)
So far this year, Nurse still has 21 points (7G, 14A) in 67 games played.
Darnell Nurse Still Has Several Years With A High AAV On His Contract
Nurse, who was take by the Oilers with the seventh overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, has played his entire NHL career in an Oilers sweater.
After this year ends, Nurse still has four years with an AAV (average annual value) of $9,250,000 left on his contract, a move that puzzled many Oilers fans when it was signed.
If the Oilers were to trade Nurse, they would almost certainly need to retain a major percentage of that number, as there are almost zero teams who would be willing to take on that entire amount.
In 783 career NHL games, Nurse has 321 points (88G, 233A).
