Why the Oilers are having trouble moving Andrew Mangiapane, according to Frank Seravalli

After the Oilers lost several forwards during the summer not long after their second straight unsuccessful trip to the Stanley Cup Final, one of the new forwards that they brought in was Andrew Mangiapane, who played last year with the Washington Capitals.

But Mangiapane has had a hard time fitting in with his new team, and he's embroiled in trade rumours.

But there's one key holdup to a potential trade of Mangiapane per a new report from NHL analyst Frank Seravalli, and it's the second year on his contract.

So far this year, Mangiapane has 11 points (5G, 6A) in 40 games.

Mangiapane was taken with the 166th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the divisional foe Calgary Flames, where he would play the first several years of his NHL career, including the 2022 Battle of Alberta playoff series.

But he was traded to the Washington Capitals before the start of last season for a second round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, and he had 28 points (14G, 14A) in 81 games in his first and only year with Washington.

He signed a two year contract with an AAV (average annual value) of $3.6 million with the Oilers this summer.
