Today, the Edmonton Oilers move to call up top prospect Isaac Howard has indicated potential severe injury problems ahead of the playoffs.
Over the last couple of weeks the Edmonton Oilers have lost several key forwards due to injury including Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman.
Last night, the injury woes continued as Max Jones went down after an awkward hit and did not return to the game.
Now, the Oilers have reportedly called up prospect Isaac Howard from Bakersfield.
The call-up by Stan Bowman and the Oilers has sparked concern amongst fans regarding the health of the team’s key players heading into the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Oilers recent roster move sparks concern amongst fans
In response to the call-up by the Oilers, many fans have suggested the Howard could be needed in a key role in the playoffs if guys like Jones, Dickinson or even Hyman and Draisaitl missing games.
Probably no Hyman for Tuesday with this move and jones out
It seems that Howard will be on the roster for the playoff run but could be turned to more as a break glass in case of emergency option.
With the lack of roster limits, Howard could practice with the team and be a scratch unless there are legitimate injury depth concerns.
Either way, Howard will likely at least see regular season action to allow some injured or hurt players time to rest while he gets used to NHL speed again.
As the playoffs approach, it will be fun to see if Howard can find his way into the lineup or if he will just be considered talented practice depth.
