The Oilers are adding a lot more skill to their roster, as the team announced they are signing one of Germany's top young talents in Joshua Samanski.

The Edmonton Oilers are reportedly signing German winger Josh Samanski. He is 23 and is reportedly going to invoke the NHL departure clause on his four-year contract with the Eisbaren Berlin of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga to sign with the Oilers organization, according to German newspaper BILD.
The 6'2", 178 lb. winger played an excellent season for the DEL's Straubing Tigers, picking up 14 goals and 40 points in 52 games while averaging over 18 minutes of ice time per game.
He saw both special teams time, with 115 power-play minutes and 66 short-handed minutes. He had two goals and four points in six games in the playoffs before the Tigers were eliminated by Eisbaren Berlin, the team with which he signed with later.
Samanski's 40 regular-season points ranked 13th in the league, and this year marked his fourth DEL season. Since debuting in 2021-22, he has compiled 40 goals and 93 points in 193 games.

Despite being German, Samanski did play in the OHL

Born in Erding, Germany, Samanski has ties to Canada through his father, an Oshawa native. He played two OHL seasons, recording 45 points in 108 games with Brantford and Owen Sound.
He also has city of Edmonton experience as he played for Germany during the 2020 World Juniors, despite there being no fans in the stands due to COVID. In 2023, he attended the development camp of the Arizona Coyotes.
McKeen's Hockey had earlier named Samanski a European free agent who could potentially switch to North America, and it appears that has now become a reality.
Former OHLer and 2-time WJC contestant Samanski is a player we continue to keep our sites on and this season, it hasn't been hard to do as he's been pure eye candy for his Straubing Tigers.

We already thought he'd be a player the NHL would take into consideration last summer after he arrived as a bonafide middle-six forward at the ripe age of 21. Now he's taken things to a whole new level.

A very big boy who uses his size well to gain, protect, and battle for pucks, Samanski has done nothing but show continual bursts of speed, silky mitts, and a keen sense of creating and finishing all season long.

Yes, he's got a contract with DEL powerhouse Berlin next season, but if he continues on this pace, he'll be putting up numbers we haven't really seen from a youngster his age since Dominik Kahun earned himself an NHL contract.

And Kahun was older and smaller when he did. Wearing an A on his jersey, Samanski already has a career high 40 points in 52 games as his team holds the prime spot for the upcoming wild card round.

At this rate, you shouldn't be surprised to see him suiting up for Team Germany at the upcoming Worlds either.
