He most recently was the top coach of KHL's Amur Khabarovsk. He also led Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg and HC Sibir in Russia's top league. Martemyanov was part of the radical 1970s and '80s Soviet Union hockey apparatus that dominated global competition. He never moved to play in the NHL as did some of his counterparts, but he did find success within the Soviet Championship League and KHL. He won the league title in 1984 with HC CSKA Moscow. He also helped the Soviet Union win gold at the 1989 Winter Universiade in Sofia, Bulgaria, something that really elevated his status as one of the greats. His passing is an immense loss to the hockey world, especially the KHL, where he has touched so many lives. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends, and teammates. Rest in peace Andrei, you will be deeply missed.
