Tonight in a new clip NHL analyst Paul Bissonnette has ripped into the Edmonton Oilers and Stan Bowman for not re-signing Philip Broberg this past summer. The Edmonton Oilers lost both Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway this summer after both players were signed to an offer sheet by the St. Louis Blues. At the time of the move, it was baffling that the Oilers did not make an attempt to match either player's contract offer during free agency. Since being signed the St. Louis Blues have found magic in both Holloway and Broberg who are now having career years as key contributors for the Blues.

Loading from Twitter ...

Loading from Twitter ...

The success of both Holloway and Broberg this season has now led NHL analyst Paul Bissonnette to send major criticism toward Edmonton Oilers GM Stan Bowman for his disastrous offseason.
Paul Bissonnette Roasts Stan Bowman For Allowing Young Stars To Leave
In the newest iteration of the Spittin Chiclets Podcast, Paul Bissonnette lit into Stan Bowman and the Oilers for failing to protect their young assets and allowing Philip Broberg in particular to leave. Biz believes that Broberg was clearly the Oilers' best defenseman during the playoffs and did enough to earn a contract with the Oilers even if it meant moving on from other key players. Fair enough. But, look, Broberg was their best defenseman in the Finals against Florida. I thought he was better overall than Bouchard. Okay, say he wasn't-but to me, that was such a huge fumble. They got older, smaller and slower, Bissonnette said (1:00:20). Instead, the Oilers allowed both players to leave, traded Ryan McLeod, and then used their salary cap space to sign Jeff Skinner and Viktor Arvidsson. To this point, Stan Bowman's first offseason is looking like more of a disaster every day and if the Oilers do not make a deep playoff run he could be under fire quicker than anyone ever expected.
