Connor McDavid's future could be decided at any minute, and now Pierre LeBrun has the latest on the contract negotiations with their superstar captain.
For months now, Edmonton Oilers fans have been waiting for an answer on the future of Connor McDavid, with their star captain set to become a free agent in the summer of 2026.
Despite the expectation that he would sign a short-term extension before the regular season begins, another week has come and gone without a new deal for No. 97, and it's got some fans on edge with the regular season rapidly approaching.
Pierre LeBrun reveals worrying update on McDavid's negotiation
In his latest update on the situation, TSN's Pierre LeBrun has revealed the ongoing negotiation between McDavid and the Oilers front office, revealing one very worrying detail however.
A lot of philosophical discussions back and forth, that has not stopped; but there have not really been concrete numbers exchanged.
According to LeBrun, the two parties have discussed many things, including philosophy on how to build a team moving forward, but to this point, no concrete numbers have been exchanged in a potential negotiation.
This comes despite reports from other insiders that McDavid's deal is likely to hover around the $16 million per season mark, but as of right now, neither the team nor the player have put a number on the table.
With the regular season less than a month away, it's unclear just how quickly things can get done here, and while there's still optimism that McDavid's next contract will be in Edmonton, the longer things drag out, the more worried the fans will get.
