There have been rumors around Connor McDavid recently, but GM Stan Bowman has shut them down amid their ongoing contract negotations. The Edmonton Oilers off-season has been a very busy one, and while they've made plenty of moves, extending captain Connor McDavid hasn't been one of them to this point in time. That has led to speculation over his future, but whenever he's been asked, McDavid has been confident in saying he's determined to win with the Edmonton Oilers, signalling that he's eyeing a contract extension.
Stan Bowman Addresses Trade Rumors
As a result of the chatter, many trade rumours have come out around McDavid and the 2025/26 campaign, but unsurprisingly, Stan Bowman has quickly shut those down, stating that there's no worry from the team about that. I don't like talking about hypotheticals. Bowman said. I get the question, but I don't think there's value. There's a million different what-ifs that people could throw our way, and I think that's not really a productive discussion. I love having him on our team here. I know he's dedicated, and he, just to quote what he said, 'There's nothing he wants more than to win the cup in Edmonton.

Loading from Twitter ...

Unsurprisingly, Bowman is confident that a deal can get done, quoting the captain himself when addressing his future, stating that this is a team that can win a Stanley Cup, with McDavid wanting nothing more than that. If he doesn't get a new deal done before the trade deadline however, the Oilers may significantly consider moving their captain, but as of right now, there's no worry on either side about a likely short-term extension getting done soon.
