Top NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has revealed that some teams have quite an interest in Oilers' Noah Philp, who is currently awaiting his fate on waivers.
The Edmonton Oilers made two waiver moves this week, placing Noah Philp and David Tomasek on waivers for different reasons.
Tomasek is returning to Europe, while the Oilers hope Philp clears waivers so he can be assigned to the Bakersfield Condors. Philp's situation, however, could develop further.
What Elliotte Friedman believes will likely happen in the Noah Philp/waivers situation
Elliotte Friedman has been closely monitoring Philp's status. There's a possibility that waivers are just the first step in additional moves involving the right-shot center.
"I've had people tell me that if he clears waivers - and he might, he might not - this story might not be over. I think there are teams interested in him, but some may want the flexibility to send him down. If you claim a player on waivers, you can't send him down for a month."

If Philp clears waivers, the Oilers could explore a trade, allowing them to recoup an asset while giving another team flexibility to develop him in their system.
"Teams are killing themselves for those kinds of players. I have to think there's interest out there. That's definitely something to keep an eye on."

This approach would also free up roster space for Edmonton as the team looks to balance its depth and talent.
Why Noah Philp isn't the only player the Oilers are open to trading
Friedman also highlighted Andrew Mangiapane as a player to watch. Both the Oilers and Mangiapane may be open to a trade this season that gives the forward a larger role elsewhere.
These moves suggest Edmonton is actively managing its roster and forward depth while keeping trade options open as the season progresses, signaling a proactive approach to improving the team before the playoffs.
