Unexpected development emerges for Josh Morrissey ahead of Jets vs. Oilers
As the Jets prepare to face the Oilers tonight, some good news emerged on the ice this morning, as Josh Morrissey was skating and could be back playing.
The Edmonton Oilers close out a two-game road swing with a Monday night clash in Winnipeg against the Jets at Canada Life Centre.
Once the travel portion of this trip is done and behind them, Edmonton will have stepped through the toughest travel spell of the season, before easing into a mostly home-heavy January.
They split their back-to-back with Calgary over the weekend, dropping 3-2 on Saturday after a convincing 5-1 victory the Tuesday before Christmas.
The Oilers starting goalie revealed
All told, that seven-game, 11-day stretch left them at 5-2-0, wrapping up their final Eastern road swing of the regular season. Head coach Kris Knoblauch said Calvin Pickard will get the start in goal Monday, back in his hometown of Winnipeg.
Connor Ingram, who started the last three games, owns a 2.35 GAA and a .925 save percentage, with wins over Vegas and Calgary along the way.
The team flew to Winnipeg on Sunday morning, held a practice at the Canada Life Centre, and centered Jack Roslovic with Mattias Janmark and Trent Frederic on the third line in search of igniting the bottom six.
Why this morning's sight at Jets practice was a good one
For Winnipeg, defenseman Josh Morrissey took part in the optional morning skate, a hopeful sign he might be available tonight against Edmonton after he was hit from behind last game and skipped practice yesterday morning.
Connor Hellebuyck will likely start in goal tonight as he was seen in the starter's end this morning. Puck drop is set for 6:30 PM CT / 5:30 PM MT.
