Reporter calls out Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini after AHL championship ring debacle

The Vancouver Canucks have faced a turbulent last 12 months including trades involving two of the team's biggest stars J.T. Miller and Quinn Hughes.

When asked why they felt the need to leave both players seemed to elude to the lack of organizational leadership and focus on winning in the present and the future.

To this point, much of that blame has been placed on GM Patrik Allvin and President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford.

However, now reporter Patrick Johnston has called out owner Francesco Aquilini for his lack of leadership and respect.

In a new segment on the Sekeres and Price Show, Johnston called out Aquilini for still not having championship rings for the AHL Abbotsford Canucks.

Abbotsford of course took home the Calder Cup last season a major accomplishment which is usually celebrated on opening night of the following season.

However, almost half way through the year Aquilini has yet to secure championship rings for the team according to multiple reports.

Outrage became so loud that the organization was forced to make a statement themselves giving an update that rings are coming in the new year for the team.

Adding this on to the other reported failings of the Canucks ownership and there begins to emerge a trend of lack of care and leadership from the top of the organization on down to several other levels.

As the season continues, it will be interesting to see if the pressure to do better is put on Aquilini and the Canucks ownership by the fans and local media or if mediocrity will continue to plague what was once a perennial contending franchise in the Western Conference.
