Oilers forward Andrew Mangiapane reportedly given permission to seek a trade after unexpected scratch
It looks as though the Edmonton Oilers could be on the verge of trading forward Andrew Mangiapane, who is in his first year in an Oilers sweater after being signed from the Washington Capitals over the summer.
Things have not worked out the way that the Edmonton Oilers thought it would when they signed forward Andrew Mangiapane, who played the first several years of his NHL career with the divisional foe Calgary Flames, to a two year deal over the summer.
Mangiapane, who played last year with the Washington Capitals and had 28 points (14G, 14A), has been given permission to seek a trade, and has even been made a healthy scratch for tonight's game against the Winnipeg Jets.
Earlier this week, NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman indicated that there could be impending movement on Mangiapane's part.
Elliotte Friedman: Re Andrew Mangiapane: I don't think it's like a hard and fast trade demand or anything like that, but I think there's just a realisation...if another situation can found, I think Mangiapane would be willing to look at it - 32 Thoughts (12/29)
Elliotte Friedman: Re Andrew Mangiapane: We've seen a couple of trades recently where players who, their situations just weren't working out; I think...if the Oilers can find something...where he might have a bigger role, he would be willing to waive - 32 Thoughts (12/29)
Andrew Mangiapane Is In His First Year With The Oilers
Mangiapane was taken by the divisional foe Flames with the 166th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, and he would play the first several years of his career in a Flames sweater, including the first Battle of Alberta playoff series in decades in 2022.
He was then traded to the Washington Capitals in June of 2024, and then signed the two year contract with the Oilers on the opening day of free agency.
He has 254 points (128G, 126A) in 537 career games with the Flames, Capitals and Oilers.
