The Oilers' goalies are struggling mightily to keep pucks out of their net, and NHL analyst Jackson Weber has linked the team to a trio of Penguins netminders.
Goaltending continues to sink the Edmonton Oilers this season, and NHL analyst Jackson Weber has connected the team to a trio of Pittsburgh Penguins netminders who could help them, especially after Elliotte Friedman hinted that Pittsburgh may explore a goalie trade.
"We were talking about teams who have goalies available. I got a note from someone who said you left out a team, and they said the Penguins. This person said to me, If you look at it, at its base, they've got Tristan Jarry, they've got Silovs, who's played very well for them. They've got Sergei Murashov, who's been up there while Jarry's hurt, and the fans love him and the organization likes him, he's a really talented young goalie and also they have Joel Blomqvist, who has also been injured for a while in the AHL, but was one of their top goalies last year so Pittsburgh has four guys."

Why the Penguins suddenly have a crowded crease
The Penguins, too, stand at their own crossroads in net. Tristan Jarry remains on the roster, but Pittsburgh suddenly has a crowded crease with offseason pickup Arturs Silovs and prospects Sergei Murashov and Joel Blomqvist pushing hard for NHL time.
The injury to Jarry on November 3rd opened the door for Murashov to showcase his readiness, and the 21-year-old has quickly looked like a legitimate long-term option.
With Jarry close to a return and no obvious way to balance equal ice time for the four goalies, Friedman identified Pittsburgh as a team to monitor on the trade front.
Jarry, 30, is in year three of a five-year, $26.875 million contract, one that doesn't quite align with Pittsburgh's shifting timeline.
When healthy, he's been excellent to start the 2025-26 season, which only bolsters his value for the teams that are desperate for stability.
Enter the Oilers. Edmonton's problems in net have become impossible to ignore, and Weber noted that any of Pittsburgh's three expendable goalies, Jarry, Silovs, or Blomqvist, could fit as options.
With Murashov emerging as the clear future in Pittsburgh, the Penguins seem open to moving one of the remaining three for the right return.
Why Edmonton is not the only team seeking help in goal
It's important to note that the Montreal Canadiens have also been linked to this trio of goalies, as their two netminders have had a rough go at it this year.
"The Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens immediately come to mind as contenders that have struggled mightily at the position and are in need of an upgrade."

Whether the talks heat up sooner or drag deeper into the season, Edmonton's struggles and Pittsburgh's surplus make the two teams natural trade partners to watch.
The Oilers need help, and the Penguins have options, so a deal between the two feels more like a matter of timing than possibility.
