Vancouver Canucks recall goalie from AHL under emergency conditions
The Canucks have sent down goalie Jiri Patera to AHL Abbotsford, and in the process have recalled goaltender Nikita Tolopilo under emergency conditions.
Nikita Tolopilo was recalled from AHL Abbotsford on Monday by GM Patrik Allvin of the Vancouver Canucks. Tolopilo will switch places with Jiri Patera, who was subsequently returned to the minors in a corresponding move.
For his part, the 25-year-old Tolopilo has yet to get into an NHL game this year, where in the AHL, he has posted a 1-3-1 record and .901 save percentage in five outings with Abbotsford.
When Nikita Tolopilo could make his debut for Vancouver
If Tolopilo remains on the roster, he could make his season debut versus the Sharks or Kings on Friday or Saturday, respectively, as Thatcher Demko continues to miss time with his injury.
Turning our attention back to Patera, he saw action in one game during his November stint with the Canucks, giving up a whopping seven goals on 40 shots (.825 save percentage) in a loss to the Florida Panthers on Nov. 17.
Why Jiri Patera was demoted back to the AHL
With Demko still on the shelf dealing with his lower-body injury, the Canucks likely want Tolopilo to serve as the No. 2 behind Kevin Lankinen against the Ducks on Wednesday, and give Patera some playing time in the AHL.
Rasmus Andersson had three assists as the Calgary Flames pushed their longest winning streak of the season to three games with a 5-2 victory over the Canucks on Sunday, as things just cannot seem to go right for Vancouver.
The Canucks will look to right the ship against Anaheim on Wednesday, as the puck is set to be dropped at 10 PM PT in California.
