Oilers Connected to One of the Best Two-Way Forwards in the NHL as a Potential Trade Target

Early in the NHL season the focus for Oilers GM Stan Bowman and the front office was to get their top core player re-signed.

With all of those players locked up on multi-year deals, reports have indicated the Oilers have begun exploring the trade market for top-six wingers to pair with Connor McDavid on the top line.

To this point, the exact players the Oilers were targeting was unknown but this evening a report from Jeff Marek has indicated that Alex Tuch of the Buffalo Sabres has become a key player of interest for Bowman and the Oilers.

In a new segment of the Sekeres & Price Show, Marek confirmed that Alex Tuch has been a name connected to the Oilers on multiple occasions in recent days and weeks.

Tuch is a name expected to be available at the trade deadline if the Buffalo Sabres struggle again this season as the losses are reportedly weighing heavily on Tuch and other high profile Sabres.

Tuch would likely be a rental for the Oilers as he is expected to warrant around $12 million on his next contract.

However, his current cap hit of just $4.75 would be much easier for the Oilers to work into their lineup for this season as they once again look to go all in on winning a Stanley Cup.

Tuch at his best is a 70 to 80 point power forward with great defensive ability as well who brings everything a team would want during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

At the moment, the Sabres will likely hold firm with a high asking price to pry away Tuch who is a hometown hero in Buffalo but if the team struggles look for trade talks to heat up quickly.
